Grammy’s 2010: Best Dressed According to Aimee

ciara_grammys

Ciara did WORK! The Grammy’s are still in progress but I had to make my list because the fashion was just too amazingly outrageous for me not to put my two cents in. (Which I seem to always need to do.) Here’s my list! And I’m sure some of you will think I’m crazy, so I’m more than prepared to argue my cases. Take Ciara, sure, some may see this as a hot mess, but I love it. Very Gaga-esque but still works for her. She looks phenomenal. The details are so dope. I’d love to see this Givenchy concoction in person!

See the rest of who made my cut, after the jump. And remember, this is the Grammy’s. Anything goes!

Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2010

chanel_couture

Golly gee! You cannot look at this and NOT smile. Karl Lagerfeld may be a disconnected man from reality when it comes to real women and their real curves. But, he sure can produce some amazing garments. Especially the one above. Wonder what his inspiration is? I’m guessing it’s himself. Of course, Style.com got the inside scoop on what NOT to call the new line, especially if you are in the presence of the master himself.

How to define it, though? Someone backstage suggested futurism. ‘I hate that,’ Lagerfeld shot back. ‘I don’t believe in avant-garde clothes for a future that will never happen. Fashion is always now.’

I cannot love couture shows more. And I hope that people understand what “couture” really means. As great as Marc Jacobs is, or how fashionable Dolce and Gabanna garments are, they aren’t, and most likely never will be, couture. Couture means 1. being part of an association in France (its a long name, just know there is one). 2. The house must make a certain amount of garments a year, and have a certain amount of shows a year. 3. (And most importantly) quality is the best possible. Hand beading, fine fabrics, and flattering silhouettes are all a must. One of a kind is key. Not mass produced and ready -to-wear for just anyone and everyone. There’s more complicated rules to the whole couture business, but that’s just the wrap up version. At least we can all now conclude that Juicy Couture, is, well, not.

More highlights after the jump.

Style Icon Ebony Bones

ebony_bones_ltd_5

ebony_bones_tld_2

I heard about Ebony Bones last year and was initially blown away by her outlandish fashion sense. Just like Jem, she is truly outrageous! With a sound you can compare to M.I.A. but self-described as “jungle punk” and a look you might say is Rainbow Brite meets Peggy Noland, how can you not get into this fierce little lady from London? She started out acting on soap operas but now brings the drama to the stage with her fluorescent clothing, circus makeup and energetic performances. Aside from representing designers like Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Miss Jones makes her own crazy clothing. I love a true weirdo who looks like she’s having fun and this girl definitely plays that part!
She’s currently on tour and has two shows in LA next week at La Cita on Feb 1st and The Echo on Feb 5, so catch her and her neon army if you can! See more of her wild style after the cut.

Knock-Off Fail: Christian Louboutin

knockofffail-christianlouboutin

If you guys read the blog daily, you know I’m some-what of a supporter of knock-offs. I’m all for saving money when you can, but also making your contribution towards supporting the designer. When you’re broke or on a budget, sometimes all you can do is buy the look alike. (Although I will add I don’t support fake logos or brands being put on fake stuff). So I found this REALLY bad imitation of the Christian Louboutin lace “Bridget”. Not also is it obvious they stole their design, but they took it and just spit and puked all over it. We get that it isn’t EXACTLY  the same, but pretty damn close. The Tish goes for $32.80 (it should be $2), while the Louboutin bootie goes for $1,795.

Yay or Nay: (Mens edition) Chris Brown in John Galliano

chris-brown-john-g

So, we have to sometimes spice it up with some men’s fashion. Does anyone object? I know we have some male readers out there ( we get e-mails all the time). Chris Brown rocked these boots from the  John GallianoSpring/Summer 2010 collection for Paris’ Fashion Week. I don’t know how I feel about them? I don’t know if they really even go well with that outfit?
