Oscar Fashion Picks

I know many people have already posted their thoughts on what the stars wore to the Oscars last Sunday, but I had to get my two cents in as well. I thought the ladies this year really stepped it up for the most part. The dresses were glamorous, innovative, and, well, fabulous.

Here are my favorites from the night:

030710-sandra-bullock-250

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. The girl came dressed to win an Oscar. Simply stunning.

030710-maggie-gyllenhaal-200

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten. Fresh, fun, youthful, and most importantly: unique.

030810-Rachel-300

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab. My absolute favorite of the night. So glamorous.

030710-zoe-saldana-250

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. A lot of people hated this dress, but I think it represents everything fashion: original, daring, jaw-dropping. There’s no doubt she took a risk, and I think it paid off.

030810-SJP-275

Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel. A lot of people hated this dress as well, but I think it’s a perfect SJP dress. Not many people can pull something like this off, but she does it. The color is amazing, and I loved her hair. (although it looked a little messy by the time she presented)

Valentino Sculpture Lace Pump

What does a $4700 shoe look like? Apparently like this:

nmx0h5q_mn

When I first came across these Valentino Sculpture Lace Pumps I was intrigued. But the closer I look at these I can’t help but think that they are just flat-out ugly. The floral applique looks like it was glued on by a first-grader. I really don’t understand why anyone would pay $4700 for these shoes. But, then again, I’m not filthy rich. I guess given the opportunity I could rock these, but I just don’t have any desire to…

Buy them here if you’re so inclined.

Steve Madden Tuxx Oxford

I’ve been looking for a pair of affordable white and black Oxford shoes for quite awhile. The kind that reminds me of my childhood.

I was ecstatic when I came across these lovelies at Steve Madden:

I snagged these up today on an impromptu shopping trip. I can pair them with a casual dress and leggings, or rolled up jeans, a tank, and a boyfriend jacket. I may even go all out with the menswear trend and wear them to work with a suit.

Get your own pair here.

NYFW: Christian Siriano

Christian Siriano was one of the first designers to unveil his Fall 2010 collection at New York Fashion Week.  Here’s a peek at some of his drool-worthy collection:

31

I adore the over-sized, belted blouse and pencil skirt combo. I think it creates a lovely silhouette that almost every woman can pull off. And if the awards season has taught us nothing else, it’s that one-shoulder ensembles are huge this year.

21

Ruffles are also a major trend, and Siriano put them front and center on this fabulous cocktail dress.

35

Siriano is well-known for his show-stopping gowns, and this one certainly did not disappoint. I can totally picture Drew Barrymore in this at the Oscars.

Christian Siriano is definitely one of the designers I most look forward to at each Fashion Week, and his collection this year was no exception.

You can see the whole collection here.

Carrie Underwood + Super Bowl = ?

When Carrie Underwood first took the stage to sing the “National Anthem” at the Super Bowl, a lot of thoughts ran through my head about her outfit.

carrie-underwood-300x400

First thought: Wow. That’s a whole lot of white. But, it is Miami. And the people in Miami love to wear white. Plus, the girl has wedding on the brain, so I can forgive the all-white outfit.

Second thought: Ok, I can forgive the all-white outfit, but the hair…the hair is a mess. Carrie’s hair usually looks fantastic. She’s a total knock-out when she wears it down, so why go with this messy,  bumpy, wingy thing?

Final thought: Minus the hair, she totally rocked this outfit. Of course, she looks great in almost everything she wears. And she’s young and gorgeous, so she can pull this off.

What She Wore: Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior

I’m not sure what’s come over me, but this is the second outfit that I’ve seen Sarah Jessica Parker in recently that I haven’t loved.

I love the accessories, but the dress itself just isn’t doing it for me. I know it’s Dior, but there’s something very ordinary about it. Almost bridesmaid-y. SJP did put her own spin on the dress, but it just wasn’t enough to sway my opinion.

Green Day: The Musical

Words cannot express how excited I am that Green Day’s music is coming to Broadway!

green-day

“American Idiot” will make its debut at the St. James Theater in New York on April 20. According to the Los Angeles Times, the musical, “follows the journey of the protagonist Johnny, a modern-day Christ figure who travels from a suburban nowhere to the big city, where he must choose between love, drugs and other existential dilemmas. The story also follows a character to the Middle East.” It was co-written by Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of Green Day.

I was already planning a trip to NYC in late spring/early summer, and this just provides a little extra incentive.

So, what do you think: Is this our generation’s response to “Mamma Mia“, or do you think Green Day should stick to the airwaves and concert stages and leave Broadway alone?

What Is She Wearing: Amber Rose

No, really. What is she wearing?

Someone please tell me because I am at a loss for words.

Golden Globes: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Golden Globes were last night, and although I didn’t really care that much about who won or lost (except for Glee!) I did care about what everyone was wearing. Here are my picks for the good, the bad, and the ugly of last night’s festivities:

The Good:

I loved Sandra Bullock. I thought she looked stunning in purple and her accessories were perfect.

011710-sandra-purple-200

January Jones looked gorgeous in a black headband, and I love the elevated shoulder.

Kate Hudson wowed in this white gown and killer platforms.

The Bad:

In a different color, Nicole Kidman’s dress would have been lovely. But this champagne color on her does not work.

011710-nicole-champagn-200

I didn’t quite understand Julianne Moore’s ensemble. The way the dress hangs is completely unflattering, and the off-the-shoulder look is just a little too off-the-shoulder.

The Ugly:

Just once I would like to see Mariah Carey in something a little less porn star. We get it, girl: You love your boobs!

My best-dressed cast goes to the charming actors of Glee. They all looked fabulous, and their genuine shock and appreciation when they won made me glad to be a Glee fan.

Who were your favorites? And who did you think should have taken a much longer look in the mirror before heading out?

Coming Up: Golden Globes

The 2010 awards season is upon us, and with that comes the 2010 awards season fashion. Countless knock-offs will be forged in the coming months, and hours of material for the next season of The Rachel Zoe Project are no doubt being filmed as I type this.

Last year, the Golden Globes gave us these fabulous frocks:

January Jones

Anne Hathaway

Eva Mendes

This year, I’ll be looking at Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Marion Cotillard, and of course the ever-innovative January Jones.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at the Golden Globes tonight? And almost as importantly: Who is going to look like a train wreck?
