I heard about Ebony Bones last year and was initially blown away by her outlandish fashion sense. Just like Jem, she is truly outrageous! With a sound you can compare to M.I.A. but self-described as “jungle punk” and a look you might say is Rainbow Brite meets Peggy Noland, how can you not get into this fierce little lady from London? She started out acting on soap operas but now brings the drama to the stage with her fluorescent clothing, circus makeup and energetic performances. Aside from representing designers like Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Miss Jones makes her own crazy clothing. I love a true weirdo who looks like she’s having fun and this girl definitely plays that part!
She’s currently on tour and has two shows in LA next week at La Cita on Feb 1st and The Echo on Feb 5, so catch her and her neon army if you can! See more of her wild style after the cut.
Usually promoting another fashion blog would be a tad weird but this, my little grasshoppers, isn’t your average fashion blog. It might be my mad love for her but when I first heard that Mariel Haenn was writing a blog, along with other celebrities for Tanqueray, I swore I peed my pants. She gives us all a look behind the scenes of fashion shows and it is amazing. Not only can you hear her opinion of what she thinks of Alexander McQueen’s spring 2010 show (which she, of course, loved) but she shows photos of piles of those infamous lobster claw heels. You can also read what CSI: New York’s Hill Harper has to say about the Haiti earthquake or The Daily 10’s Sal Masekela’s surfing excursions.

Bio:
Amanda Lopez was born and raised in Sacramento, California under the watchful eye of her parents and paintings of La Virgen de Guadalupe. Her father lent her a camera at the age of 17, and photography soon became her savior. She studied art at San Francisco State University, and continued to shoot around the Bay Area and beyond. Whether she’s photographing Latina homegirls, street musicians in the Mission District or members of her family, Lopez’s camera eye looks for a balance of beauty, strength and urban tenacity. Her work has been published in Vibe, XXL, Mass Appeal, XLR8R, Hamburgereyes and such books as Roger Gastman’s “Street World” and Upper Playground “Backyard Shake Down.” Lopez continues to be influenced by her Latina background and the energy of American cities. She believes La Virgen de Guadalupe has guided her well.
