There is Always a Way Out!

in-shadow

Today’s post is going to be a bit different from my previous posts. I’m going to try to be short and brief and talk about a serious topic that has captured my attention for a while now. Domestic violence is one of the worst things any person can go through. According to the American Psychological Association Force on Violence and Family, more than 4 million women in America suffer from domestic violence.

I remember growing up and hearing my neighbor getting hit by her husband almost every night. Her screams would give me the chills and made me feel as if I was in the same room getting hit as well. It was that bad. The next morning I would see her watering her garden and kiss her husband good-bye as if nothing happened the night before. I always asked myself why she stayed with him. Wasn’t there a way out for her to escape? I was too young to understand and see the real picture.

Now that I’m older, I can see why she never left and took every hit. Her mind was manipulated by this so called husband. She believed that it was okay to get hit because it was her ‘fault’. At least that’s what he made her think. The sad part is, she is not the only woman who has gone through this. I’ve met many women who have shared similar stories with me. One thing they all have in common is guilt. How can a woman feel guilty after getting hit by a coward? No way. Their partner makes them believe they were the reason they were mistreated. I strongly believe that every woman should be treated with respect and should feel loved in a relationship. I know that we women can be harsh at times and not be the nicest girlfriend/wife, but there is never a reason for a man to put his filthy hands on a woman. Us women should always stand strong and know that we deserve the best. I don’t want to make this post any longer but if any of you is going through this, remember there is always a way out. If any of you have survived from domestic violence, please feel free to share your story. I’m sure it will be a great help for our readers. And if any of you is going through this and needs immediate help, please contact www.thehotline.org ASAP.

I’ve included a few links to help every woman recognize an abusive man after the jump! Please take the time to study every single one of them. This is really important and it can happen to anyone. I hope this post was helpful.

Twerk that booty! Brazillian booty lifts

l_fi090106fitex001

Having trouble with that booty? It’s either to mushy, to flat, too big, too small. Never perfect right? Well the biggest craze right now in booty work-outs is the 5-minute Brazillian Butt work-out plan. 5 minutes a day is all you need to get that booty poppin and into shape.

Plie:

  • Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, arms at sides, toes turned out.
  • Tuck tailbone under and contract glutes.
  • Lower body into a pli squat as low as you can go without allowing knees to creep past toes.
  • Simultaneously raise arms to shoulder height in front of body, palms down. Hold for 2 seconds, then return to starting position.
  • After 20 reps, pulse at the bottom for 20 seconds.

See the rest here! You can also watch video demo’s here for extra help. And the complete routine.

$1,850 sports bra? Oh hells no!

_mg_6039

As if a $50 sports bra wasn’t enough, BodyRock Sport has created this $1,850 “Trenta Bra” which I thought maybe would have something amazing like built in nipple guns (Like in Austin Powers), breast growth devices, or something just out of this world. But nope, all you get is some attached necklace thing and black spandex.

“Attached to this uber stylish sports bra is a gunmetal sterling silver bracelet and necklace from K&H’s Trenta collection. The jewelry is removable and can be worn as a necklace with bracelet or as a long necklace. There is gunmetal burnout fabric used on the sides of the bra, which adds ventilation and chicness.”

So tell me, if you had $2,000 laying around, would you?

LOL of the day: Comfort Wipe

OH my! I know you are watching this and waiting for an SNL actor to come out and say something funny, but I promise you- this is as real as it gets. Yes people, this is for those of you who 1) can’t reach your behind to wipe 2) want to “save you dignity” and who knows what other reasons. All I know is, who need an extra 18 inches to wipe your bum? LOL for sure.

NSFW: Are You A Performer?

For whatever reason workouts restricted to the gym are hella boring and very unlikely for to me participate in. I applaud any woman who dedicates time to staying fit in those machine run places but dancing and stretching in cute outfits??! Now that’s more like something I could do. I’m by no means a dancehall queen but I sure as hell pretend to be in my bedroom. This shit is way more impressive and fun to get into. I’ve also been obsessed with baile funk for quite sometime and Tequileiras do Funk did nothing but feed into my obsession with “Surra de Bunda”. I’m hoping this obsession is contagious and a few of you ladies give it a try. If not for yourself then at least for you man!isis-nicole-signature5

Top 6 favorite exercises

42-22345838

The other day we had a post asking our readers which part of your body gives you hell. I agreed, my arms are the hardest thing to work out, along with the booty. I’ve been going hard at the gym lately, trying to master the moves to work-out those stubborn parts, so I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you, because I’m sure I’m not the only one! My favorite work-out routine of course to add to these moves is about 45 minutes of cardio and running, then I move on and focus on one part (booty day, arm day, abs, etc). And remember, a healthy diet also helps too!

Bad skin? Feed your face!

foodskin-istock

I recently got back from vacation, and my face is definitely feeling the after effects. Between traveling, humid and hot weather, plus the sun- my skin has been off the wall! I can’t really afford to pay for hundreds of dollars worth of skin products, so I thought I would start by eating healthier again. There are definitely foods you want to avoid for bad skin (junk food, greasy food, etc) and foods that promote good skin. Here is a list of good face food, and why they are good.

Face Food #1: Avocados
This creamy, green fruit is abundant in essential oils and B-complex vitamins that nourish your skin, inside and out.
Niacin (vitamin B3) is especially important for healthy skin, and avocados contain lots of it. Niacin, an anti-inflammatory, soothes irritated skin and red, blotchy skin. One avocado has 3.8 mg niacin – 27% of your daily need.
Blend half an avocado with yogurt and frozen berries to make a creamy, nutty-flavored morning smoothie.

Face Food #2: Mangoes
Mangoes have more than 80% of your daily requirements for vitamin A, which is why they’re such a great face food. Vitamin A maintains and repairs skin cells; a deficiency will result in a dry, flaky complexion.

Face Food #3: Almonds
Not only is it a gorgeous shape for your eyes, almonds are also great for your complexion. With 150% of your daily need for vitamin E, it’s no wonder that getting a bit nutty is good for you.

The Best Self-Tanner

42-17488722

I know there has to be more girls out there like me who don’t use the sun to get their tan on. For me, its  a mix between having time and having such pale skin to begin with that I’m more likely to be red then bronze. I’m a huge advocate for sunless tanning. Of course, sun has its health benefits but too much can lead to skin cancer, which my pale-skinned family has a history of.

Of course, heading to a salon to get air-bushed or spray tanning is wonderful, but not so friendly on the bank account. I like to use this way to get that glow only for special occasions, like Vegas. There are plenty of at home self-tanners out there and I’ve used them all! Two of them I feel are better than the rest.

Find out which ones after the jump.

The Walk of Shame..have you done it?

jangtypcn

Actress January Jones was caught by the paps, looking like a very hot mess the morning after the GQ Awards. She was wearing the same dress, rocking the same (kind of ) hair do, and carrying her shoes in her hands. You know she must’ve had an amazing night. You know when you’re wearing the same cocktail dress, the morning after at 7am waving down a cab in some strange neighborhood- you have officially done the walk of shame. (No judgement here January).

Now, my question to our readers. Have you ever done the walk of shame?

Have you ever done the 'walk of shame'?
