I’ve been on a major workout kick for the past few months. It’s definitely paid off because I have seen a huge difference in the way my clothes fit. Total success. Now that I know I’m on my way to my summer bod, I’ve been more conscious about what I eat.
I was told that eating protein in the morning is a lot better because it gives a sustained feeling of fullness throughout the day, as opposed to eating it for lunch or dinner. TRUTH! I work protein into my breakfast and I’ve been feeling a lot more full throughout the day so come lunch or dinner I’m not craving a 10 course meal. In a study published in the International Journal of Obesity - it was found that eating two eggs for breakfast, as a part of a reduced calorie diet, helped overweight adults lose more weight AND feel more energetic than those who ate a bagel for breakfast. Perfect for the days you workout because you’ve got the spunk to get yourself in exercising!
My breakfast ideas: Oatmeal, two eggs (omelette with lean Canadian bacon and low-fat cheese OR throw it all into a whole wheat tortilla), yogurt. You can pair up and get healthy carbs in like those found in fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Sometimes when I’m in a hurry I’ll drink a protein shake like Muscle Milk, but if you’re not into that (the taste sometimes gets to me) you can go for soy milk.
As far as the rest of the day goes, I try to get in my greens and some carbs (can’t live without) as well as some other key foods. Check behind the cut for suggestions to help you still eat but lose weight!

Somewhere between summer ending and fall/winter beginning, and there on, I get deathly ill. For days and sometimes weeks at a time I am bed ridden, crawling on my hands and knees to get from the bed to the bathroom. It’s my own fault - I don’t keep myself in immune fighting mode. We all do things that make our immune systems weak. We drink alcohol, wear ourselves out with stress, and have poor diets.
What we eat plays a huge role in fighting off germs. The simple solution? Eat well. I’ve listed eight power foods to help you beat the bug.
1. Oranges!
Also known as the staple to any breakfast, one orange provides more than 100 percent of the daily value for vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps to strengthen the immune system. Vitamin C helps boost immunity by stimulating growth of antibodies that fight off infections. It is a part of the chemical reactions that allow our bodies to synthesize proteins needed for antibodies. It also acts as an antihistamine by lowering blood levels of the histamines released by the immune system that make stuffiness and congestion worse. SO the more vitamin C the better!
2. Blueberries
The powerhouse of antioxidants - blueberries get the most votes as the immunity food. These little guys are a good source of vitamins C and E and when these two work together they produce the greatest antioxidant effects. C works as the water soluble antioxidant and E works as the fat soluble.
