I think when everyone saw Alexander McQueen’s collection for Spring 2010, everyone was in awe. There were some evidence of snake print in the amazing shoes, and some natural colors in the clothing. TDLC put together an amazing comparisons of the collection to natures own moths. Love it!
Nicole Miller had one inspiration in (or not) in mind when she made her Spring 2010 collection. The Weather channel, duh! Designer Nicole Miller was at NYFW presenting her spring 2010 collection which evidently to TDLC looked like weather radar! When asked about her newest season, she said “This season was more about how I dress”. Simple, and selfish, yes. Hot, yes.
I love when designers use the wierdest and most random things to inspire their designs.Erin Fetherston’s spring Collection is heavilly inspired but nothing else but the mushroom cloud. With soft frills, bubbles and almost cloud like looking materials, Erin Fetherston’s collection is awesome!
I wrote about Mary Katrantzou a couple months back, because this line seemed to look like it was inspired by Perfume bottles. But as TDLC points out, it looks much more grasshopper like. The thorax, and abdomen (Thats me trying to sound like I know about bugs), are intact with the dresses. TDLC took the fashions and compared them to individual types of Lubber grasshoppers, and she’s spot on in her comparison. From the prints to the high necks featured above, these designs are straight from nature.
my favorite peanuts from the Charlie Brown cartoon are showing up in fashion. Hmmm…

The Muppet theme on Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s runway took show-goers back to their childhood. The eccentric designer showed off his 2009 collection at Paris Fashion Week that was heavily inspired by the classic puppets, including pieces like a Kermit the Frog scarf and matching hair band.
The gallery shows some of the highlights from the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Muppet show, which also includes other offbeat pieces like leopard-shaped (not just leopard print!) gloves and dollar bill dresses.
Pretty Sweet! Believe it or not, I would rock that dress….. why not?

When Russian-born artist Wladimir Baranoff-Rossiné (1888-1944) set out to perfect Cubo-Futurism (which combines the Cubist usage of forms with the Futurist interest in dynamism), he probably never imagined his creations would find themselves gliding down a London catwalk.
I love the inspiration!

Mary Katrantzou showed these absolutely fabulous futuristic patterned dresses at London Fashion Week. The prints are photographic quality graphic and many look like perfume bottles brought to life.
Gorgeous! I would totally rock these

I’m so in love with these accessories! I love the concept of using bullets and diamonds.
This French Luxury brand, Akillis seems to take some inspiration from James Bond. Its appeal is sexy, luxurious, dangerous and eccentric and the collection is presented as if it were Bond’s next mission. Bullets were a large part of this collection, with two pieces that stood out to me more than anything else; the diamond bullet nipple ring and the thigh cuffs made up of diamond covered bullets are out of this world!.
The 26 year-old designer, Caroline Gaspard, was not being modest when she fabricated her customer with Kalashnikov price tags starting at 7000 euro (aprox. $9,000USD) and moving upward towards 11,000 euro ($15,000USD).

This Spring 2009 collection by Malaysian designer is truly, obviously inspired by nature. Introducing Ding Yong’s: METAMORPHOSIS. The conspicuous and relatively abrupt changes in form, shape and color on Yong’s runway were akin to that of a Hawk Moth, ungracefully transforming into a winged beauty before our eyes.

By viewing the pieces as “caterpillar-turned-pupa-turned-cocoon-turned-moth,” they come across a little less sleeping-baggish, wouldn’t you agree? (Although, given the baby doll head on a dress not pictured in this series, I imagine he was going for something relating to childbirth or evolution.)
