It’s no news that MTV isn’t about music anymore - I can’t remember the last FULL music video I’ve ever watched - so it doesn’t come as a shock that they would make the decision to drop the ‘music television’ from their logo. Three decades ago, Frank Olinsky designed the logo that we have seen filled as a fish tank, human organs, graffiti, and probably a ton others that we can all think of. The new look was revealed on-air yesterday and features the original 3-D large “M” with the small, graffiti-style “tv” on the right side. The new design is larger so that photos of “network talent” can be seen through it.
This morning on 97.1 Amp Radio, Carson Daly mentioned that since Laguna Beach became a success, the network had essentially made the switch over to all reality. True right? You’ve got to give your audience what they want. When I was a kid, I came home to record music off MTV and make mix tapes! I laid around in the afternoon watching No Doubt, TLC, Michael Jackson, Bush.. you name it and it was on my tapes.
So….one of my previous posts mentioned to all of ya’ll about an outrageous fashion event at the House of Blues this past Saturday. Cold Flamez, art show, and talented fashion designers, including the star of MTV’s House of Jazmin. I had incredible hopes for her line, which was shown first. Well….
It was terrible!
I’m not one to put other people down, but I can count designer friends on both my hands and feet that deserve a television show more than this girl. She was upstaged by every single other line there.
My friend who has a interest in fashion but cannot tell the difference between the quality of Nordstroms and Forever 21 pointed out to me
“I could get all of this at Forever 21 huh? Maybe even Charlotte Rusee?”
That isn’t a good thing Jazmin.
House of Jazmin, more like house of ugly.
Trust. I’m not taking cheap shots at a “celebrity” just because I have the means to, she really does not deserve a show.
MTV, look a little harder in L.A. for your designers. There are some amazingly talented ones out there!
The rest of the show consisted of flirty, candy colored cocktail dresses, boundary pushing undergarments, rebel without causes denim and tees, and a neutral flashback to the 20’s done oh so perfectly.
Johnson & Johnson has launched a limited-edition series of MTV Band-Aids featuring artwork by Brazilian indie artists Carla Barth and João Lelo. The goal is to reach audiences that want to express themselves but these will only available in Brazil. I can see pre-teens/adolescents wearing these but not so much for mid-20’s etc. I’m more of a animal or cupcake band-aid girl.
I’ll admit, the song had to grow on me. At first I agreed that for some reason Rihanna’s voice didn’t mesh well with Jay Z & Kanye’s delivery. After listening for a while, now I can’t stop playing it.
The video for “Run This Town” premiered on MTV today. I watched it a couple times & I really appreciate how Anthony Mandler, the director, brought the song to life. Some people are saying it’s a bit much & seems demonic or associated with the illuminati, which is ridiculous.
See for yourself
I love the video because it has meaning & a story line worth watching & trying to figure out.
& I don’t know about you guys but I really love RiRi post-pon de replay.
& she is telling our a$$es to watch her move! & let me be the first (well, maybe not the first) to say I’m damn glad!
With 2003 hits like ”Bye, Bye Boyfriend” & “Take Me Away”, Fefe Dobson has never failed to blow me away with her skills: songwriting, singing, and her kick ass rockin moves. Anyone who knows me personally, knows my profound admiration for the Toronto native artist. Her debut was in 2003 and disappearing from the scene for 3 years the fans wondered where she was at. In 2006 she came back with a HIGHLY slept album titled Sunday Love.
Then, some unfortunate events took place. 3 years later (again)… my favorite rockstar is back!
On August 5th of this year Fefe released two new singles (& videos) on MTV. The video that follows is a song I couldn’t help but listen to for 4 times before I decided i HAD to write about her.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I love the video! Anyone who’s aware of Fefe knows she can change with the times while still remaining absolutely true to herself. Basically giving a big “EFF YOU” to those who have tried to make her completely conform to something she doesn’t want to do.
I’m wishing, hoping, and praying that things go well for her. She deserves it.
