A few months ago I decided to stop giving Forever 21 my pennies and start investing in more vintage clothing. One of these reasons was because in the past, everything was just made better and lasted longer. Nowadays a lot of things fall apart after a few months. I’ve bought jewelry from Forever 21 and even from my beloved Betsey Johnson and my fingers turned green after one day of wear. Now I know it’s not real gold or anything, that’s why it’s only FIVE DOLLAS, but my grandmother’s costume jewelry from 25 or 30 years ago isn’t real either and doesn’t turn my hands into some cochina Kermit status. They should really stop fronting and put this jewelry in one of those 50 cent gumball machines!
Anyhoo, if you are like me and appreciate vintage clothing, come out to the Vintage Expo this weekend at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium April 24- 25! They hold this expo in LA as well as in San Francisco several times during each year but this will be my first time attending it! There will be 75-100 vintage merchants from all over the country selling clothing, jewelry and accessories from the Victorian era to the swingin’ 60’s and all the decades in between and after.

Girl crush #2, Zooey Deschanel! This girl pretty much looks cute in anything she wears, and has a very unique cute style. I love her retro looks, and she can rock vintage and look totally natural. She is the ultimate hipster cutie. Here is she is the American Society of Cinematographers 24th Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards. You like?

I’m not gonna lie, The Cobra Shop certainly does have a couple of items I’d place into my shopping cart very very quickly but I’m on a college budget and for some reason I can’t get over the fact that I can find half of this stuff for less at my local Goodwill or thrift store. Hell, my neighbors may even have a couple of these items I can fish out for the weekend. But if dropping dollars on handpicked vintage wear is your thing The Cobra Shop is worth a shot.
More after the cut…

My mom grew up in the 60’s, so I like to think I am predetermined to have a lil hippy in me. I’ve been slow to jump on the vintage bandwagon but NastyGal.com has changed my mind with quickness.
We all want to own something that is one of a kind and their pieces are that and more! The dress above, kinda a classic silhouette that can be accessorized in any way possible to look modern.
They also offer new items if you aren’t down with wearing 2nd hand clothes.
Here’s a few more of my favorites:
Read Me Romper $98
Crochet Draped Dress $48
Lula Lace Tent Dress $74

Claw Money recently released her Winter collection, but I totally ignored her new eyewear collection! I am loving the vintage look for these shades. They all range at about $300 a piece. Start shopping eyewear here at the Claw Money store.

I found out about Spanish Moss Vintage through Myspace (yes, some of us still use myspace), and I fell in love. I still haven’t gotten around to buying anything, but I look at their blog everyday and browse through their stuff. The unique thing about buying vintage is it’s not very likely you’ll run into someone at the club wearing the same shiz as you (I’ve experienced this wearing Forever 21 clothes for too long). Prices are reasonable, especially since most of these are rare pieces you won’t find anywhere else, and vintage is vintage! Shop for yourself here! Here are a couple of their newest items:
