Lipstick On The Mirror: Swimming Upstream

from the movie ATL:

pleasure turns to the pain
lessons learned from the strain
questions burned in my brain..
about whether love is humane
in its touch.
these thoughts are like salmon swimming upstream
in the tears of your deceit.
fighting the current hurt that kills more than is created by the chaos
of our intertwined emotions.
chaotic because the anchor of Erros’ arrow has been plucked
from the vessel of my undying infatuation
separation not as simple as the distance between us
my mind no longer possessed by demons
that have been the overseers of my enslavement to your lies
the seeds of these lies rooted so deeply
they have cracked the foundation of what we once shared
allowing the faith in us i had sealed inside
to gush out like a river
ripping the image of our future together from my thoughts
as violently and as brutally as if it were a child
being taken from its mothers arms
im left surrounded in darkness
but i refuse to be swallowed by it
my lonliness like the night air
invisible to the eye
obvious to the touch
it is cold uncomfortableness
yet if i could do it all over again
id do it in the same skin im in
to lay down and let love die
just stay down and let love lie?
no, no..not i
id stay around and let love fly
even though i have seen its darkest form
deceit
nothing else could taste this warm
or feel this sweet…

Lipstick On The Mirror: Temporary Threads

I let go of my favorite pair of Citizen jeans the other day. They had been taking up too much mental space within my closet for quite some time. I had pushed them back into the furthest corner of my closet, hoping that I wouldn’t be struck with the reminder of them no longer fitting. I remember the first time I put those bad boys on. The intimate happiness I felt wearing them overrode any feeling I had that day. They soon became my favorites due to how they hugged my hips and made my outfit complete. But soon we grew apart. They had taken on their own shape and were stubborn enough to not conform into who they used to be. Such audacity I had to even loan them out! New emotions, stretched seams, fresh stains. Why do we even hold onto things like this? Memories are made from the past and emotions are temporary threads. They mirrored him, they mirrored you. Let go of those things that you can longer fit. Give them a chance to fit someone else. I am now thankful for the new confidence they gave me. And yes, thankful for letting them show others that mama has curves! We must be happy knowing that there are many more racks and tables of denim out there. Denim that will also smooth our sides, hug those thighs and take us through the days of our future.

Lipstick On The Mirror: The New Character

They say that friends make the best lovers, or is it friends make the best partners? Friendships lead into relationships or do they really lead into a compiled blob of awkward run-ins and unspoken feelings? We strive each day to maintain connections with people without even knowing it. Day by day building and dissembling what we think to be relevant at the time. Finding common ground between “homie” and midnight caller is always easy in theory. Both women and men put themselves in sticky situations that lead to either a great understanding, or the worst mistake you’ve ever made. Is it worth it? If only it were as easy as shopping on barneys.com. Searched through pages of Marc Jacob bags, ordered the illest little clutch, received it in the mail and later flaunted it at the club. Compliments from others, questions as to where you got it and others staring in envy… one satisfied customer. Need something new? Back to the world wide web. Ordered a new pair of Miu Miu’s that didn’t fit, send those bitches back! No hassle, no front, no grief. If only we can catalog and transition from friends to lovers this easy.
